A young, energetic candidate with an agricultural qualification, including Plant Pathology as a subject, is required for a position based in Pietermaritzburg and serving the surrounding area with potential for relocation at a later date.

The role offers a great opportunity to get involved in the seed potato industry and work one’s way up through the training provided. The position will involve responsibility for all aspects of the certification of seed potatoes including: registration of units, field inspections, taking of samples, tuber inspections, certification of lots and administrative tasks and data capture.


  • Minimum of a Diploma from an agricultural college or Technikon, with Plant Pathology as a subject, and knowledge of basic cropping principles;
  • Good communication skills (fluency in written and spoken Afrikaans and English) and a positive attitude with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Computer literacy, strong numerical aptitude;
  • Driver’s license;
  • Willingness to work outdoors (a lot of field work will be required) and be very `hands-on` as well as possessing a keenness to learn;
  • Must be able to work with labour and physically capable of long hours in the field doing routine work;
  • Open to relocation at a later stage depending on the needs of the company;
  • Previous experience in the potato industry would be an advantage but with two years in-service training being provided, candidates without this experience will be considered.
Salary Details:

A total CTC package of R31 154 per month is offered. Medical aid and pension contributions (23%) will be deducted from this amount. A company vehicle is provided once the candidate has progressed far enough in training. Accommodation is not provided.
