The primary focus of the Sales Manager is to manage the planning and sales of a range of sub-tropical fruit product lines to the company's’ current retail and wholesale customer base within South Africa as well as develop new markets.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the incumbent will be required to lead and successfully coordinate sales and marketing building activities of the commercial team working closely with the production planning, sourcing and supply functions within the business. While fostering an environment of performance excellence within the team, the Sales Manager will be required to meet overall business objectives of product availability and quality, forecast accuracy and supply-demand management. The position will be Nelspruit based.


  • Give input into and deliver on the long term local sales strategy to support the group’s objectives, ensuring translation into actionable innovative plans that exploit growth opportunities for market expansion in South Africa.
  • Build and manage cohesive relationships with procurement function to convey market requirements, pricing and other services based on the the company's value proposition.
  • Initiate and implement marketing and sourcing strategies and coordinate actions to positively influence the company's market share.
  • Actively manage procurement and customer pricing.
  • Develop processes that improve sell-side customer service levels to increase satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Optimally coordinate demand-side planning to enable logistics and supply-side capabilities.
  • Support processes and controls to ensure consistent product quality is achieved.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers to implement best practices, meet and manage customer expectations and optimise demand-side requirements.
  • Develop partnerships of loyalty and trust to ensure customers consider the company a supply partner of choice.
  • Proactively develop and improve products and services, matching customer needs with the Business’ offerings
  • Develop and implement metrics and goals that continually drive performance improvement to ensure long-term equity gains.


  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Sales and Supply of Fresh Produce, Commerce, or similar is preferable.
  • Five years’ experience at a management level in sales with well-developed leadership skills in FMCG sales and relationship building.
  • Track record of developing and implementing successful sales strategies that deliver step-changing business results.
  • Strong commercial and sales acumen including understanding related business and financial records.
  • A confident and determined approach.
  • Team player aware of the cross functional nature of the business.
  • Resilient to aggressive competition and continuously changing market dynamics.
  • High standard of excellence.

  • Willingness to travel both in South Africa and internationally.
  • Advanced practical knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Experience in the sub-tropical fruit / fresh produce industry is an advantage.

Market-relate salary package with commensurate benefits (C5 Patterson)
