Situated 16km from Paarl, a small but expanding fruit farm currently has a vacancy for a passionate and practical Junior Horticulturist to join their team.
The farm is primarily a developing blueberry operation with existing citrus, plum and grape plantings. The Junior Horticulturist will take on responsibility for overseeing all plant health and fruit production aspects including fertigation (programming, scheduling and monitoring) as well as compliance administration. Seasonal picking, pruning and crop estimations will also become part of the responsibilities as the operation grows. As this is a new development, the person will be exposed to picking, packing, shipping and logistics until this aspect of the business requires a fulltime person.
A relevant tertiary qualification (horticulture/ agriculture/ pomology);
A practical, hands-on approach, happy to work outdoors and get hands dirty;
Willingness to learn and assist with a wide variety of tasks;
Computer literacy and general administration skills (report writing)
Fluency in Afrikaans (spoken and written)
Acceptable English written and spoken communication
The successful candidate will need to show the ability to grow into a management position.
