An established flower growing operation northwest of Johannesburg, Gauteng, currently has a position available for an IPM Manager and Assistant Grower.
The farm currently focuses on the production of export chrysanthemums under cover and has its own packing facility on site. Other value-added products are supplied to the local market as well.
The IPM Manager and Assistant Grower will take joint responsibility for overseeing the IPM Department and will be required to handle the following:
Management of the scouting team (15-20 people);
Ensuring that all plants in the section are free of pests and diseases;
Introduction of new chemicals and biological products;
Report writing and related administration;
Adherence to Health and Safety standards;
Assisting with other aspects of plant production as required by the Operations Manager.
A relevant diploma-level qualification;
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, managing a team of labour;
Exposure to greenhouse and shade house growing conditions;
Knowledge of plant pests and diseases and various methods of control
Experience in the calibration and correct application of chemicals and other pest & disease control products through various methods;
A passion for plants, eye for detail and hands-on approach;
Excellent communication ability and report writing skills.
